Veteran aircraft return to the Falklands

The Falklands Islands Museum has received two new exhibits to commemorate the British territory’s liberation from Argentina in 1982, writes

Located in Port Stanley’s dockyard, the Falkland Islands Museum and National Trust a Sea Harrier FA.2 and a Lynx HMA.8 helicopter. Both were types at the forefront of the British task force’s battle to retake the islands during Operation Corporate in 1982.

The aircraft arrived by sea in June 2024, and were moved to the museum on June 14, celebrated on the islands as Liberation Day.

The Joint Aircraft Recovery and Transportation Squadron (JARTS), a combined Royal Navy/RAF unit based at Boscombe Down in Wiltshire, were entrusted with transporting the exhibits from RNAS Yeovilton to the Falklands. Although both aircraft are to be temporarily placed in storage on the Islands, a new exhibition hall is currently under construction and both airframes will be housed there upon completion of work in spring 2025.
