The Pakistan Air Force has been highly effective against terrorists in Pakistan’s FATA region and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets have been at the forefront of its combat operations, as Alan Warnes explains.

Pakistan’s ACEs

ACM Sohail Aman has set up an Airpower Centre of Excellence (ACE) at PAF Base Mushaf focusing on the lessons he has learnt.

“Internationally, there is no institute in the world that off ers organised training for counter-terrorism; not even the coalition. So that’s what we are doing.

“I have posted the best pilots, controllers and engineers into the ACE. It has three components: the Combat Commanders’ School, Air Warfare School and a Tactics Developments School. We are inviting other air forces to come to learn or exchange ideas on counter-terrorism, and will have our first major ACE exercise in October.

“I found myself in the dark when this brutal act of terrorism started and we should pass our knowledge and exchange ideas with others so that it may help in the future.”
