Callum Dickson tries his hand playing ‘realistic’ mode in War Thunder

After last month's escapades with the mobile railway gun that was the FV4005, I thought I would make a change in pace. One of the biggest issues the FV4005 faced was its large silhouette and profile, meaning I was almost always targeted by the enemy team. But what if I could remain hidden?

This drew me to something in War Thunder that I have never tried before:

‘realistic’ battle mode. Here you do not get aim assistance or enemy confirmation on maps, just small flashes of where they were last spotted until, suddenly, you find yourself surrounded and deep behind enemy lines. I decided that rather than jumping in immediately with high-ranking vehicles, I would do a test run with some of my other nations, with varying degrees of quality.

Other key differences in ‘realistic’ mode are that the game sorts you into matches with players of the same level and nation.

You also have respawns equal to the score you accrue, so could have more than the usual three.
