Nine years of restoration, two separate owners and one striking paint scheme. Garry Stuart takes a look at one remarkably restored Morris CDSW 6X4 artillery tractor

On avisit to the No Man’s Land event in North Wales in 2022, I was on the lookout for something different to photograph. Casting my eye across the hilly country estate, I zeroed in on a six-wheel truck in a desert-sand paint job. I made my way across to the vehicle and found the owner, Chris Allsop from Bolton. On close inspection, it was apparent that this was a vehicle that had been lovingly restored to a very high level. I told Chris that I’d never seen nor photographed such a truck before. To my amazement, he told me it was not surprising, as I had, by chance, come to take a look at the rarest vehicle at the show. He told me that his Morris CDSW was one of only nine complete examples in existence. Chris also said that the restoration was all the work of Chris Smyth in West Yorkshire.
