Leaking gaskets and seals

Jeeps are lovely things. They look beautiful and they are a hoot to drive, but generally they all suffer from a couple of ailments in particular. Let’s all be honest here; they are very old technology, break down a lot and leak oil. The same was true for classic motorbikes and Land Rovers. I spend most of my time stopping leaks on the Jeeps I buy. One thing I seem to be constantly having to do is stopping oil leaks from the Willys Jeep fuel lift pumps and the transmission drive shafts. I guess many of you may have had similar issues with your Jeep. This is what I did to get over a problem recently. There are many different variations of military Jeeps and some parts and seals/gaskets will retro fit on several different models. I think when the parts manufacturers know this, they will sometimes try to manufacture one part to fit a few variations (see pictures 1 and 2). This seems to be what has happened with the oil gasket on the fuel pump rebuild kits lately, and the oil gasket that goes between the pump and the engine block always seems…
