Nigel Hay’s round-up of the military vehicle market

August is normally a quiet time for the military vehicle market as collectors are busy at shows. There have been some high-value sales though, including Adrian Scott’s M51 Sherman (recently featured in CMV) which has been picked up by Tanks-ALot, for their World War Two portfolio. We hear the Copeman’s well-known M4A2 Sherman has gone to the Wheatcroft’s armoured division.

Milweb currently has three M34 Chaffees for sale, including one that left the UK a couple of years ago to go to a Swiss collection and is now being sold in France for a modest €420,000. BAIV, meanwhile, are offering an M7 Priest at €430,000 – which is the highest asking price for an M7 we have ever seen. So there is no question that World War Two tracked armour is continuing to rise in value – and there are still many eager buyers out there.

FV432s rarely come up for sale in Europe so it was good to see a Mk2 sell quickly for €32,000. There are very few tank experience operators on the continent – it seems to be a very British thing.
