Nigel Hay’s round-up of the military vehicle market

Despite Jeep prices having stabilised to a more realistic level in the past few months, we had two high-priced Jeeps come onto Milweb. One was a British-marked 1943 Ford GPW in Poland at €40,000 and the other a 1942 GPW at €35,000 in Holland. Both of these had similar multicolour non-standard paint schemes, representing North African campaigns. There is, of course, a lot more work involved in such finishes, but it can make it a harder vehicle to sell as not every potential buyer wants a vehicle that isn’t in plain olive drab or British green. The cost of repainting could be prohibitive for many as it would be a lot of work. The likelihood is that when sold, they will stay as they are now.

Our highest-priced Jeep this month was a beautiful 1941 Willys MA from a Czech seller at US$130,000. Pre-standardisation Jeeps always command much higher prices and they are a real niche market. I notice that whenever these come up for sale, they are pure and uncluttered without any accessories or dressing. The discerning owners are much more concerned with the attention to detail and tracking down seemingly unobtainable …
