‘Bones’ on duty

The 7th Bomb Wing’s 9th Bomb Squadron assumed the responsibility for the US Pacific Command’s Continuous Bomber Presence mission on February 6. The deployment to Andersen Air Force Base, Guam is the first for the Block 16 version of the B-1B. Operated by the 9th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron (EBS), the Lancers replaced B-1Bs operated by the 34th EBS, which returned to Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. The 34th, which is assigned to the 28th Bomb Wing, had been deployed to Guam since August 2016. The 9th EBS will be relieved by B-1Bs from the 37th BS at Ellsworth when its six-month stint concludes.

Rescue squadron on the road

Air Force Reserve Command’s 920th Rescue Wing has deployed personnel and aircraft to two overseas locations to provide personnel recovery support for ongoing operations. The wing sent HC-130s from Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, to Africa, where they will support Combined Joint Task Force — Horn of Africa for four months. A second group arrived at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, where they relieved another detachment from the 920th that had been deployed since October, providing rotarywing personnel-recovery support with HH-60G helicopters.
