L3 TO OFFER SPYDR II TO CANADA

L3 AEROSPACE SYSTEMS has announced plans to offer a modified Beechcraft King Air 350ER-series aircraft in response to the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND)’s requirement for a multisensor manned airborne ISR (MAISR) program. The company’s solution is derived from the SPYDR II system.

The company’s L3 MAS division, which is headquartered at Mirabel International Airport, will collaborate with L3 Mission Integration to provide the DND with a multi-sensor manned intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capability capable of supporting both domestic and deployed operations. The SPYDR II is fully certified with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) supplemental type certifications (STCs) and features L3’s Rapid Aircraft Payload Deployment System (RAPDS), which is designed for the rapid reconfiguration of sensor payloads.

The aircraft is equipped with a WESCAM MX-15Di that provides full-motion video, surveillance radar, line-of-sight/beyondline- of-sight (LOS/BLOS) tactical communications, LOS/BLOS sensor datalink, mission management system, and a DF SIGINT system. Canada plans to acquire three examples. Tom Kaminski
